CAROLiNA figueiRedo

Born in Sao Paulo - Brazil, at the age of 19 she received a scholarship to the National Ballet of Cuba where she began her professional career as a classical dancer. In 2008 she moved to Panama City, where she was invited to join the National Ballet of Panama as a soloist and as part of the company she performed in various countries, such as Russia, Costa Rica, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, among others. Parallel to that, she entered the teaching staff of the Steps Dance Academy as a teacher of Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

In 2013 she began her career as an independent dancer - was invited to join FEC - and her career as a choreographer writing multidisciplinary works: Deesevuelo, VéRTICE, Voces de Papel, Disincronía, Y, among others. International full funded residencies was an important part of her research and development as an artista. In 2016 at Le Briqueterie (Paris - France), in 2018 in Hospitalfield (Arbroath - Scotland), in 2019 at the Choreographic Center Heidelberg (Heidelberg - Germany) where he performs with the musician Aquiles Navarro and in 2022 at Bloedel Reserve (Bainbridge Island - USA).

In 2018 she created PATACóN, a multidisciplinary project in which he immerses herself in environmental fragility, with works of photography, video art, installation and performance. In 2019 she received the award for best choreographer of the World Ballet Competition and in October of the same year the PATACóN collective was invited to create Y, a physical theater and contemporary dance work for the Prisma International Festival. In December together with Isabelita Lewis, Carolina is part of the process of creating and directing Seasons: Recomposed.

In May 2020 the artist is selected to develop the work t.ejer under the Solos3 platform of the Prisma (International Dance Festival) and in December of the same year together with the artist collective youyouyou, her work casa.corpo//t.ecendo is exhibited in the exhibition Avivar el Pulso at the GRID Gallery curated by Donna Conlon, Jonathan Harker and Cyriaco Lopez.

In February 2021, Carolina was part of the Historias Mínimas residency organized by the Espacio Creativo Foundation, where she began the piece trilogy of the body. In April 2021 she presented t.ejer at the Ciudad del Saber under the Solos3 platform and in June she presented again in the National Theater of Panama. In August of the same year, the artist was selected by the Ministry of Culture of Panama for the National Dance Encounter for the recomposition of the piece trilogy of the body  together with the musician Aquiles Navarro.

In October she was selected to dance under the direction of the choreographer Keren Horesh-Begun and to participate in the exposition La Mirada at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama. In December 2021 Carolina was part of the international project [a] - transboundary language directed by Lutz Gallmeister and sponsored by the Government of Germany - where her work was exhibited at the Kronen Bo Gallery den, in Berlin and at the Memorial da Resistencia, in São Paulo - Brazil.

At the end of 2021 Carolina was invited to COCO Contemporary Dance Company directed by Marlyn Attie where she performed in the plays: Layers, 55 and ASH. At the Prisma 2022 Festival, the artist was performing the work Equilíbrio directed by choreographer Sharon Fridman. After that she participated in the piece Being Human Being together with the choreographer Yaniv Abraham.

In March of 2023, she presented the project GEOS.mina at the Museum of Contemporary Art under the curatorship of Maya Juracan. In May with the COCO company she performs at the National Theater of Panama and in June 2023 he participates in the international tour with the works ASH and 55 in: Antwerp-Belgium, Rotterdam-Holland and Nerja - Spain.

In June 2023, the artist won the INGENIA culture fund and led dēbāte, a site specific project in an abandoned prison. The project was an artistic exhibition space and workshops where for a month the work of 16 artists provoked the public present through different disciplines, with the purpose of dislocating the thought of the center towards the peripheries. And facing the challenge of building a necessarily polyphonic narrative about the conflicts of the present moment.

In October of the same year she was invited by the Coco company to dance the work Being Human Bering by choreographers Yaniv Abraham & Guy Shomroni (Israel).

Currently the artist is in the creative process of the work PAPIEЯ - a transdisciplinary work presented in August 2023 at the Anita Villalaz Theater, in which the artist is in the artistic development phase.
