
CAROLiNA figueiRedo
Born in So Paulo - Brazil, graduated in Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance but immersed in a University of Laws. She received an invitation to a scholarship in Cuba where she started her professional career as a dancer. In 2008 she moved to Panama City to be part of the National Ballet of Panama as principal dancer. In the company she appeared in various cities such as: Saint Petersburg – Russia in the, Dance Open International Festival, Bogotá - Colombia, San José - Costa Rica.
After a decade as a classical dancer, Carolina begins creating contemporary dance works using multidisciplinarity and immersing her research in socio-environmental problems.
As an independent dancer from 2013 to present, she is part of FEC - Fundación Espacio Creativo where she works with Vladimir Rodríguez (COL), Belinda MC Guirre (CAN), Stephanie Dondi (CR), Allysem Hook of Gallim Dance Company (USA), Omar Carrum (MEX), Milvia Martínez (PAN), Felipe Salazar (CR), Omaris Mariña (PAN), Pamela Pietro (USA), Edivaldo Ernesto (SEN), La Intrusa (ESP), Guy Naharin (GAGA- ISRAEL), Rachel Erdos (ISRAEL), and others.
In the same period she started her choreographer career writing multidisciplinary works with artists from Francia, Taiwan, Colombia, Brazil and Panamá.
In 2017 she created and directed VÉRTICE, a work of contemporary dance with young artists coming from risk areas, using urban spaces of the city.
Also she created and performance the work of contemporary dance VOCES de Papel. In São Paulo - Brazil she presented the workshop to several professional dancers on research in her last work called 00:26.
In the ending of 2017 she was invited to the Multidisciplinary Residency in Hospitalfield, in Arbroath – Scotland, along with 10 artists of other disciplines and different parts of the world to explore their own work.
In 2018 she started the project PATACÓN, with the artist Ricardo Linero Ledezma to foster an urgent dialogue, through artistic expressions, on a social issue unquestionably affected by the neglect of the environmental problems. Sponsored by the National Institute of Culture of Panama, the project expands to become the first non-artistic gallery in the world with photography, video art, installations and performance.
At the beginning of 2019 she created DINSINCRONíA for the students of the Enlaces Program.
In June and July to 2019 she is selected to participate in the artistic residence at the Heidelberg Choreographic Center - Germany. In October of the same year as part of the PATACóN project, Carolina next to Ricardo Linero Ledezma created and directd Y, a play of physical theater, contemporary dance and music with a cast of 6 renowned artists which travels through different timelines to question our decisions and daily actions.
In December 2019 with Isabelita Lewis, Carolina was part of the process of creation and direction of Seasons: Recomposed. In May 2020 the artist is selected to develop the work t.ejer under the Solos3 platform of the Prisma de Danza Festival. In October 2020, together with the collective of artists youyouyou, her work casa.corpo // t.ecendo was selected by the GRID Gallery.
In February 2021 Carolina is part of the Historias Mínimas, residence organized by the Fundación Espacio Creativo where she begins the work trilogía del cuerpO. In April 2021, she presented t.ejer in Ciudad del Saber, under the platform of Solos3 of the Prisma Festival. In June 2021 she returns to present t.ejer at the National Theater of Panama. In August 2021 the artist is selected by the Ministry of Culture of Panama for the National Dance Meeting for the recomposition of the trilogía del cuerpO with the musician Aquiles Navarro. In October 2021 she is selected by the Prisma Festival for the presentation of the result of the Prisma Lab under the direction of the choreographer Keren Horesh-Begun.
